Locals impress during squash tournament

THE Hamilton Squash Club hosted its tournament at HILAC last weekend with locals putting up strong results across the contests.

There were five divisions with the PARS scoring system used, with the format being a best of five games.

Hamilton had nine representatives in the 37-person field, and all played well across the two days, with the competitive matches also improving their skill which will boost the local weekly pennant competition.

More than half the local contingent finished on the podium, with five players among the standouts across the different divisions.

Dan Howe in his first tournament finished with a win in Division 4 and local club stalwart, Nic Hendriks, finished runner-up.

Nilo Polkinghorne went down in a tough five-game contest against a very in-form Pat Kelson from Warrnambool and took out the runner-up trophy in Division 3.

Dan Dean was consistent with three of his four matches going to four games to take out the plate in Division 3.

Damien Goodman was runner-up on a countback and his squash game will benefit from being pushed hard against players from other clubs.

The next regional competition is in Warrnambool in October.
