THE Portland Runners Club will bring back its annual Winter Solstice Fun Run on Sunday, in what’s set to be another huge event for the club.
With 120 participants already registered as of early this week, the club looks set to equal or even surpass its 2023 total of 160 entrants.
There are three events, with the 9km Lagoon and 15km Lighthouse to Lighthouse available to runners or walkers, while the 25km Lighthouse to Lighthouse trail is open to runners only.
Reynolds said the registrations for the 15km event have picked up dramatically compared to last year.
“I suppose it’s our most iconic run in a lot of ways, it’s the one that got the event up and running back when we first started,” she said.
“We’ve got a lot of out of towners this year, and not just people from Hamilton, Warrnambool and Mount Gambier, we’ve got them coming from as far as Melbourne and beyond.
“The weather should be ideal for this time of year, cold but no rain to speak of according to the forecast so it should make a good day for walking or running.”
The club will be introducing a new third-party registration and timing system this year, which Reynolds said will get the club up to speed with what most clubs in the state are doing.
There are buses available for both Lighthouse runs which depart 30 minutes before the start time of each event listed below, and will leave from Ploughed Field, Bentinck St.
Online entries are available until noon tomorrow, with walk-ups also available on the day.
The club also hosts a free 1km dash for kids and donates $2 of every entry fee to Beats Cycle for Hope, a community fund which helps cancer support programs within the Glenelg Shire.
