Hamilton Croquet Club report

LAST Thursday two of the outside courts were still able to be played on, in spite of all the rain over the previous few days.

In the one game of Ricochet played Carol Anderson overcame the combined efforts of Susan Mason and Lorraine Rye and pegged out first making 26 to 22 hoops.

Lesley Schneider and Cecily Fenton overwhelmed Ron Smith and John Haydon in their game of Association finishing with 25 to 9 hoops.

Afternoon play saw two games played simultaneously on each of the two available courts.

Brian Mibus and Schneider prevailed in their game of Association against Helen Hadden and Haydon making 15 to 11 hoops. Playing on the same court but playing Ricochet Anderson and Rye snatched victory from defeat by edging out Tim O’Brien and John Brader 26 to 24 hoops.

On the second court Helen Bell played a strong game against Margaret Donehue and Linley Bramall pegging out first with 26 to 10 hoops. It was a much closer result in the other game with Denise Stevens finishing ahead of Margaret Langford 26 to 20 hoops

Saturday morning and the courts were once again too wet/soggy to play on, so games took place indoors.

Morning games tended to be evenly matched. By combining the overall totals for each game played Smith finished just ahead of Mibus with 54 hoops to 53, Rye making 46 and Glenyce Kuilboer 41.

In the afternoon the overall winners were Rye and Smith with 28 hoops each, Bell and Brader with 23 hoops, and Denise Stevens and Anderson trailing behind with 21 hoops.

Next Saturday a group of members will be going to Portland to play social games against the Portland players, weather permitting.

Hamilton Bowling Club report

ALTHOUGH the sky was threatening, Thursday’s social bowls was played out successfully.

The indomitable Neville Linke led the reliable Rob Henstridge and new up-and-coming bowler, John Mitchell to victory.

The pair won all their games with 25 shots to spare.

Dennis Gay skipped beautifully, playing with Jack Waldron and Graeme Henstridge to finish second.

With a forecast of nine degrees and hail storms threatening, there was only one possible decision to make on Saturday – of course it was to play on regardless of the expected weather.

Before results, a rule needs to be explained.

Alan Crane’s team was the only one undefeated, finishing with one win and two draws, however there were several teams with two wins and a loss, with these scores to be considered before the two draws, which means John Crane and Jimmy Nichol were the winners with two wins and 16 shots up, and Linke and Richard Neaves finished second.

This is bonanza week – our last one for the year on Saturday, starting at 10am.

Casual dress with a light lunch and afternoon tea included.

Members are asked to bring a plate of red lamingtons.

A woman never reveals her age, but a very special lady has a very special birthday this week. Congratulations Kay.

A reminder that complete bowls specialists will be at the club on August 27 at 10.30am.
