LOCAL bowler, Alison East, suited up in the Victorian uniform once again for a three-test series against New South Wales in Sydney last week.
East was selected as part of the Victorian Para Bowls Squad, competing in singles and triples across each of the three tests.
The Cavendish resident has spent plenty of time in state uniforms in recent years, and once again got the eye of selectors earlier in the year.
“We always have trials every so often, in June we had the trials, and I got picked to go to NSW for the test series and also nationals in October.
“It is the first time the tests have taken place for Para players.”
The Victorian ladies won the series, 2-1, with East instrumental in the strong performance.
“I played pretty well, I got put out in my singles by four shots,” she said.
“I skippered pairs and triples and played really well.
“I normally play as skip, one of the pairs we swapped around and I led, but that was the only game I led, the rest I was skip.”
East, who has moved from Grangeburn Bowling Club to Hamilton Bowling Club for local pennant, practices during the week on the green.
“Every week I always practice and play social on Thursdays and Saturdays to get my eye in,” she said.
“Today (Wednesday) I have been practicing, I do drills with my coach, and he sets up warm-up drills.
“Karen Murphy is my other coach and she coaches the Australian team, there is only four of us in the Para Jackaroos women’s squad.
“She has given me a hint and asked what my biggest goal is, she is really pushing me to get beyond the nationals.”
With East currently in the Para Jackaroos squad, her next camp at the AIS is scheduled for December, which comes after the nationals at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast in October.
The local bowls player also has her sights set on a possible trip to Glasgow in 2026.
“My ambition is to get into the Commonwealth Games,” she said.
The Victorian men also won their series, 2-1, with the hope that the test series becomes an annual event between the two states.
