Southern teams get the better of locals

IT was a dominant day for the Portland-based sides, claiming wins against their northern opponents in Midweek Pennant round six action on Tuesday.

Division 1

HAMILTON hosted Memorial and home green advantage counted for nothing, as the visitors scooped maximum points from the 73-43 win.

Graeme Solly got Memorial rolling with a 21-17 win against Peter Graham, before Donald Wallis also got on the winners list with a 32-13 result against Elma Astbury.

Stephen Arthur ensured it was a clean sweep with a 20-13 win against Norm Pech.

Balmoral travelled south to take on Portland and collected just two points after going down, 53-83.

Lindsay Gruar rolled up 29 to Neville Trotman’s 16, Kerrie Alexander finished with 34 to defeat Cheryl Trotman by 19, before Daniel Brody pinched a win for the visitors, edging out Heather Burgess to win, 22-20, for Balmoral.

Grangeburn had the bye and collected 15 points and 30 shots.

Division 2

GRANGEBURN Red closed the gap on the top four with a dominant performance against Penshurst, winning 56-26.

Penshurst was the visiting team and was unable to match Red, as Lesley Stewart accounted for Ann Rentsch, 31-14, while Rosemary Spencer got the better of Brenda Uebergang, 25-12.

Grangeburn Blue didn’t fare as well, losing to the visiting Coleraine, 34-49.

Beverley Fry got the visitors off to a winning start with a 27-17 win against Julie Pollock, before Lesley Beaton backed up her teammate with a 22-17 win in the other rink against Beverley Casey.

Hamilton collected 12 points from its 49-38 win against Casterton.

Robyn Donovan rolled up 33 to win by 15 against Bernice Sullivan, while Teresa Sealey earnt the visitors two points with a 20-16 performance against Jim Nichol.

Macarthur hosted Portland and it was the visitors who claimed maximum points from the clash, winning 40-32.

Val Baker defeated Beverly Bourke, 23-16, while Andrew Smail had a much tighter contest, edging out Carol Uebergang, 17-16.

Memorial had the bye and finished the round with 14 points and 16 shots.

Division 3

MACARTHUR hosted Hamilton and claimed 13 of the 14 points on offer by the narrowest of margins, 38-37.

Carole Dunn’s 18-17 win proved pivotal to the overall result, with Cliff Brinkmann unable to level the scores, while Anne Gilmour and Pamela White played out a 20-20 draw.

Grangeburn was at home for its clash against Memorial, with the visitors taking care of business, 38-37, in another thrilling finish.

Wendy Kosch rolled up 25 to Jan Hamblin’s 16, while Memorial got a rink win after Julie McInnes defeated Adriana Ryan, 22-12.

Portland forfeited to Casterton, gifting the western team 15 points and 14 shots.
