SPORTSCENE Minders locked up the Hamilton Basketball Association (HBA) Women’s Division 1-2 minor premiership with an 18-point win against St Mary’s Black on Tuesday.
Minders went into the final round clash needing to win to ensure they claimed top spot, and controlled proceedings from early in the contest.
Saskia Gould and Casey Rook tried to provide scoring options for Black, putting up nine and six points respectively, but in the end, it was Minders who grabbed a 41-23 victory.
Tahlia Ross topped the scoring list for the winners with 14 points, while Paige Kissel offered plenty of support with 11 points.
Tigers d. Minders Blue
TIGERS have made light work of Minders Blue to finish the regular season with a comfortable win in the late game.
The second-placed team got off to a fast start, as Blue struggled to match the intensity across the court.
Reet Kaur was a powerhouse for Tigers, linking up to help her teammates transition the ball effectively.
Despite its best efforts, Minders Blue was unable to bridge the gap and fell to the Tigers, 20-67, at the final buzzer.
Kaur put up a game-high 19 points, while Molly O’Brien (12 points) and Isabelle Johnson (11 points) offered strong support.
Maddison Cotten was Blue’s best under the ring, finishing with eight points.
St Mary’s d. Monivae Dolphins via forfeit
Men’s Division 1
Minders White d. Monivae Warriors
MINDERS White has squeezed into the top four with a dominant performance against Monivae Warriors, winning its Men’s Division 1 contest by 36 points on Wednesday night.
The Warriors required a few reinforcements for the clash, but White didn’t waste any time, putting points on the scoreboard early and grabbing the momentum.
It was a shooting clinic from Josh Miller, who found some space around the perimeter at will to put up six three-pointers.
His dominance wasn’t just from long range though, finishing the game with 32 points to see White to victory, 72-36.
Tyler Staude was also a key player for Minders, finishing with 22 points.
Isaiah Mulley showed glimpses for the Warriors, finishing with seven points.
St Mary’s Orange d. Minders Blue
IT was a tighter contest in the next game, as St Mary’s Orange held on to defeat Minders Blue by six points.
The round 15 clash was a see-sawing contest with both teams enjoying periods of dominance.
Deacon White proved to be the difference though, as he put up five maximums and Blue had no response.
White also did damage inside the key, finishing with 20 points in his team’s 39-33 win.
Jake Donehue did his best to match effort at the other end of the court, finishing with 15 points for Blue, while Josh Soawyer chipped in with six points.
Barber Boys d. Tigers
A ONE-TWO punch of Nate Krause and Wade MacDonald helped Barber Boys to a 25-point win against Tigers in the last game before finals.
The late game got underway, and Barber Boys grabbed the ascendency early on, with Tigers unable to go with them on the scoreboard.
Krause made use of his long-range radar to finish with four maximums and a total haul of 22 points, while MacDonald added 14 to ensure Barber Boys finished the regular season in the top two.
For Tigers, Zac Elliott was the main scoring threat, top-scoring with 18 points.
Angus Hayden-Simpson provided some support with 10 points, but it was too little too late, as the team was unable to reel in the deficit late in the round 15 contest.
Finals
SENIOR season finals get underway next week with season deciders locked in for Wednesday, September 14.
