Miller masterclass keeps Minders in the mix

THE Hamilton Basketball Association season rolled in with women’s games moved to Thursday as a result of Melbourne Cup Day.

It was a rare occasion when the men played earlier in the week and Josh Miller looked primed for a big game in Minders White’s Men’s Division 1 clash against Barber Boys on Wednesday.

Miller was the main scoring threat for his team, putting up six three-pointers to keep the Barber Boys’ defence under pressure.

Despite an individual 31-point effort, Barber Boys held on to win, 53-47.

Jakob Greaves top-scored for the winners with 17 points.

St Mary’s Orange d. St Mary’s Black

THE early game saw the two St Mary’s teams go head-to-head with Orange eventually coming out on top, 41-31.

Deacon White was the difference maker, putting up a game-high 16 points to ensure his team edged clear on the scoreboard and claimed the win.

Will Povey (eight points) and Ethan Knight (seven points) also offered scoring threats at different times.

Edward Koch was Black’s top-scorer, finishing the round four game with 10 points, while Archie Porter chipped in with nine points of his own.

Orange’s win kept the team in top spot, one point clear of

Women’s Division 1

Barber Babes d. St Mary’s Black

BARBER Babes opened up the round against St Mary’s Black and recorded their second win of the season, 39-23.

Danielle Van Kalken found form, putting up 12 points, while Isabelle Johnson finished the game with nine points.

Black’s scoring spread was impressive with only one of its seven players unable to register a point, but with Tamai Bremner’s eight points the highest across the team, it was always going to be tough going for Black on the scoreboard.

The next best was Saskia Gould’s five-point haul.

Tigers d. St Mary’s White

IT was the most dominant performance of the round, as Tigers put St Mary’s White to the sword to win by 29 points.

Tigers’ dominance was evident from the outset, as the scoreboard deficit grew early in the contest.

Skye Kissel and Lily Raymond tried to keep White in the contest with five points each, but it was not enough with the team only posting 14 points for the game.

Ella Sevior topped Tigers’ scoring with 10 points, while Ellorah McConachy, Karoraina Karatau-Keightley and Molly O’Brien each contributed seven points in the 43-14 victory.

The win leaves Tigers on top of the ladder, just clear of St Mary’s.
