Knight embraces challenge amid a busy work load

ANGUS Knight has returned from the Southern Cross Challenge with an expanded knowledge of the game following his Under-14 Boys campaign which got underway last week.

Knight has developed as a player within the Hamilton Basketball Association and under academy coach, Adam Jennings, with the 12-year-old centre enjoying the chance to step up and play at a higher standard.

“It was as tough as I thought it would be, it is not the average domestic competition,” he said.

“A lot more posting would have been nice, but I thought my drives were good and my boxing out was good.”

With six games played across the tournament, early starts were required, something Knight needed to adapt to.

The pace and intensity of the game was high and Knight was able to match the required effort.

“I am normally a fast player, so it was kind of easy to get up the court and back.

“We (teammates) were very good together, cohesive and played well.

“Two games in and we were good.

“We beat Vic Metro, overall the team could have done better but I was happy with how I went.”

Knight finished with 31 points across the games.

Knight is in the process of moving to Geelong and will see out the rest of the HBA season, while also juggling his commitments in Geelong and Warrnambool.

“My team in the VJBL (Victorian Junior Basketball League) made it to the Victorian Championships, which is played every Friday,” he said.

“We play against all the metro teams as well as Bendigo and Ballarat.”

Knight said two notable coaches had played important roles in his development and was excited about what the future held in terms of future progression within the sport.

“Adam Jennings was really good and also Mike McGorm from Warrnambool, without those two I wouldn’t be anywhere,” he said.

“Anything is possible with hard training, so will just see what happens.”
