WITH finals later this month, the Hamilton Basketball Association season is reaching its climax with important results recorded during round 13 games this week.
With spots in the post-season still up for grabs, teams are running out of time to make their move and push into the top four mix.
Women’s Division 1-2
Barber Babes d St Mary’s White
BARBER Babes cemented their spot in the top four with a crushing 23-point win against St Mary’s White in Tuesday’s early game after the first game ended in a forfeit.
The dominant performance was off the back of a one-two punch from Danielle Vankalken and Bec Vankalken, putting up 17 and 11 points respectively.
A strong defensive effort from the fourth-placed team kept White to just 20 points for the game, with Skye Kissel posting a team-high seven points in the round 13 clash.
The game was in the bag with plenty of time still to play, with the scoreboard showing 43-20 at the final buzzer.
Sportscene Minders d Tigers
SPORTSCENE Minders took a big step in locking away second spot with a win against third-placed Tigers in the late game.
It was the biggest margin of the round in the division, as Minders spread the scoring effort with every player adding to the total, as the team piled on 39 points to Tigers’ nine.
Reigning MVP, Tahlia Ross, topped the scoring list with 10 points, while Mia McGrath offered plenty of support with seven points of her own.
Tigers struggled to match the output, with Mimi Chun’s four-point haul the best for the team.
St Mary’s d Minders Blue
THE ladder leaders had an easy night, with Minders Blue unable to put a team on the court, gifting the top team the points.
Men’s Division 1
St Mary’s Orange d Barber Boys
ST Mary’s Orange has caused one of the upsets of the season after the third-placed team knocked off the ladder leaders by eight points in a thrilling high-scoring contest in Wednesday night’s early game.
It was an impressive effort from Orange, with four of the five players putting up eight or more points, headlined by Charlie Alexander’s 18 points and Deacon White’s 16-point haul.
Barber Boys did their best to match the output with Toby Knight posting 12 points, while Wade Macdonald and Joel Le Roy each contributing 10 points, but it wasn’t enough with the top team eventually going down, 47-55.
St Mary’s Black d Minders Blue
IT was slightly lower scoring in the late game, but St Mary’s Black didn’t mind, collecting an important win to keep the team in fourth spot.
Minders Blue went into the game with just one victory to its name so far this season, and put up a brave effort against Black, but plenty of energy and rotations helped Black get over the line in the second half.
Archie Porter led the way for the winners with 12 points, while Charlie Field added eight points to ensure Black got the win.
Tom McGinley and Aaron Glare each put up eight points for Minders in what was a tough outing for the bottom-placed team.
