THE Hamilton Hurricanes ended 2023 with a road trip to Colac to take on the Kookas in Country Basketball League (CBL) action on Sunday, going down by 21 points at the Bluewater Leisure Centre.
The round 11 clash followed a similar way to the earlier season match-up at HILAC, with the Hurricanes competitive early on, trailing by two points at quarter time before going into half time with a one-point scoreboard advantage.
Joel Le Roy and James Cleaver were instrumental, along with Josh Miller, Jakob Greaves and Shai Bunworth, as the visitors looked to overcome a third-quarter hoodoo, which had cost them the win against Colac in round nine.
History repeated though, as Colac came out after half time and dominated the court, with the Kookas putting up 26 points for the third quarter, while the Hurricanes could only manage 11, as the game slipped away from the visitors.
The final quarter saw the Hurricanes again get outran, losing the period, 14-23, with Hamilton trailing, 64-87 at the final buzzer.
Le Roy and Cleaver topped the scoring for the visitors with 14 points each, while Miller and Greaves finished the game with nine points apiece.
It leaves the Hurricanes in bottom spot with one win so far this season, with Ararat in eighth spot a win ahead, with the two sides set to face off in round 15 to finish the season on January 27.
