THE Hamilton Hurricanes are set for their first double header of the Country Basketball League (CBL) season, travelling to Colac to take on the Kookas tonight, before returning for a clash against Portland at HILAC tomorrow.
Hurricanes captain, Joel Le Roy said it will be a learning experience for many of the players.
“I think half the group hasn’t played a double header before,” he said. "
“Depending how the Colac game goes, we will run our main seven for quite a few of the minutes if its close.
“If it’s a blowout, we will sit our starters and rest them for Sunday, we want to win Saturday, but we also want to be ready for Sunday.
“Last season we ended up going to double overtime against them (Kookas), the last time we played them down there, they gave us a bit of a touch up, so we want to get one back on them.”
Returning to Hamilton for the second game should help boost energy levels of the team.
Le Roy hopes plenty of locals turn up for the clash against the Coasters.
“Our home crowds have been incredible, it is such a good atmosphere to play in,” he said.
“Our game against Terang, they got around us in the fourth quarter and that got us going.
“It really does make a difference, it can turn the tide.
“There is no squad tournament on this weekend, so hopefully there will be a big crowd.”
Shai Bunworth will miss the round five games, with Craig Jackson, Bailey Cooper and Jakob Greaves likely to play extra minutes to fill the void.
Tonight’s game gets underway at Bluewater Leisure Centre at 6pm, with tip off at HILAC tomorrow set for 1pm.
