THE Hamilton Hurricanes junior teams were back in action, travelling south for the Warrnambool Junior Seaside Classic last weekend, highlighted by the Under-14 Girls reaching the Division 1 decider.
Under-14 Girls Division 1
AN opening round clash against Warrnambool Mermaids saw the Hurricanes fall short, 27-34, as Pippa Richards put up 12 points for Hamilton.
The Hurricanes bounced back with a 30-26 win against Horsham Hornets (Webb) in round two, with Leni Robertson putting up 13 points.
Colac Kookas Green was next up and Hamilton continued its dominance, winning 50-17, with Robertson once again top-scoring with 16 points.
Hamilton faced Korumburra in round four, with the Hurricanes falling by the narrowest of margins, 15-16, as Kaydence Oswald and Richards each put up five points.
A round five bye saw the Hurricanes progress through to the grand final, falling to the Mermaids, 27-58, despite nine points from Oswald and seven points from Grace O’Sullivan.
Under-12 Boys Division 1
THE Hurricanes opened their tournament against Traralgon on Saturday morning, going down 28-53, despite the best efforts of Ned Robertson, who put up eight points, before backing up the performance with 14 points in the round two 37-25 win against Colac.
The last Saturday game saw Hamilton get the better of Horsham, 32-27, with Robertson and Jed Picken putting up eight points each.
Sunday’s early game against Millicent went the way of the locals, 43-33, with Robertson (16 points) and Liam Pickford (14) leading the way.
Hamilton then took on Warrnambool in the final pool game and fell short at the final buzzer, 13-26, despite eight points from Finn Robertson, as Hamilton missed out on progressing into the grand final.
Under-12 Boys Division 2
HAMILTON faced off against Portland in its opening game, with the scoreboard showing 30-30 at full time, highlighted by 11 points from William Iredell.
Terang was next up and the Tornadoes edged out the Hurricanes, 31-24, despite Sean Nedziwe’s best effort with seven points.
A 26-31 loss to Warrnambool in round three (Dylan Ferguson - five points) and a 27-14 loss to Port Fairy (Thomas Robertson – six points) sapped the momentum from the Hurricanes.
A round five clash against Maryborough ended in a 31-36 loss, as Nedziwe top-scored with nine points, as the Hurricanes missed out on a spot in the decider.
Under-12 Girls Division 1
THE opening game on Saturday saw Hamilton face-off against Horsham, holding on to win, 28-25, thanks to 10 points from Ruby Rankin.
Round two saw the Hurricanes fall to Portland, 31-35, despite eight points from Harper Brian.
Hamilton finished Saturday’s games with a clash against Warrnambool, losing 16-31, as Navvi Thomas put up eight points for the locals.
A round four bye on Sunday morning gave the Hurricanes an extra break, before taking on Colac, with Hamilton putting up 22 points to win by 14, to finish the weekend on a winning note.
Under-12 Girls Division 2
KOROIT was first up for the Hurricanes, with the game ending in a 14-14 draw, as Zoe Kuilboer and Lucy Manley started strong with six points each.
Round two saw Hamilton face Warrnambool and yet again there was no clear winner, as both teams put up 18 points, with Kuilboer adding 11 points.
Terang awaited in round three, as Hamilton suffered defeat for the first time in Warrnambool, going down 6-24.
Four points from Kuilboer continued the youngster’s impressive weekend.
A semi-final against Warrnambool Mermaids (Clements) saw the locals fall short by three points at the final buzzer, 9-12, despite six points from Kuilboer.
Under-14 Boys Division 1
A THUMPING 62-28 round one victory against Horsham saw Hamilton start Saturday with massive momentum, thanks to 19 points from Austin Cunneen, before the team backed up the performance with a 66-24 win against Portland, highlighted by 18 points from Cooper Kearney.
A round three clash against the Warrnambool Seahawks saw the Hurricanes fall just short, 30-34, despite another 18-point haul for Kearney.
A round four bye helped freshen up the team ahead of a clash against Colac, with the Kookas edging out the Hurricanes, 34-31, as Cunneen finished with 13 points, finishing the weekend with a good haul of points.
Under-14 Boys Division 2 White
HAMILTON opened its campaign with a 37-20 win against Horsham Hornets (Pfitzner), with Jaxx Cooper putting up 12 points for the winners.
A round two match-up against Border Sports Academy saw the Hurricanes fall short, 32-43, despite 13 points from Archie McCulloch.
The Hurricanes then faced off against the Seahawks in the final game on Saturday, with the home side winning, 39-32.
Noah O’Connor finished with six points for the Hurricanes.
A round four bye was followed by a 26-33 loss to Ararat in round five, with McCulloch top-scoring with seven points.
Under-14 Girls Division 2
HAMILTON opened its weekend with a clash against the Warrnambool Mermaids, with the home side easily accounting for the Hurricanes, 40-20, despite eight points from Hana Churchill.
The Hurricanes bounced back against Horsham Hornets (Hardigan) in round two, winning 31-20, after Mekides Churchill put up 14 points.
Portland was next up and Hamilton was outworked by the Coasters, losing 19-43, as Hannah Carroll and Mekides Churchill each added four points.
A 25-25 draw against Korumburra in round four saw Carroll put up eight points, with the team finishing the weekend early, courtesy of a round five bye.
Under-16 Boys Division 1
ROUND one saw Hamilton fall to Portland by a point, 34-35, despite the best efforts of Jedd Oxley, who put up 12 points.
Hamilton had the same result against Horsham Hornets (Bruce), 32-33, as Zanda Ewing added nine points for the Hurricanes.
Mount Gambier was next up for the Hurricanes, with the Lakers winning, 63-43, as Beau Brian finished the game with 13 points.
The Hurricanes then faced off against Korumburra with a 24-point loss the result, despite nine points from Oxley.
Hamilton wrapped up its weekend with a 15-45 loss to Warrnambool Seahawks, with Oxley adding six points to his weekend tally.
Under-16 Boys Division 2 Green
A CLASH against Maryborough saw the Hurricanes open the weekend with a loss, 21-27, despite six points from Will Kamp and Harry Button.
Hamilton then faced Ararat, with the locals going down, 17-27, as Lucas Dumesny, Charles Prentice and George Nicholls each added four points during the clash.
Warrnambool awaited Hamilton in round three and the home side won, 43-35, with Jack McCulloch top-scoring with 12 points.
The Hurricanes then faced Colac Kookas Green in a quarter-final, going down 31-44.
Eight points from Kamp was the standout for Hamilton.
Under-16 Girls Division 1
KORUMBURRA was first up for Hamilton, with the Hurricanes going down, 10-29, as Charlize Cooper top-scored with three points.
A 17-25 loss to Horsham Hornets (Burke), saw Cooper add 10 points, before a round three 30-36 loss to Portland, as Cooper once again led the way for Hamilton with 13 points.
Hamilton broke through to claim a round four win against Warrnambool Mermaids, 29-25, as Ruby Spong added 11 points for the winners, before the locals made it back-to-back wins, accounting for Traralgon, 34-21.
Emily Iredell put up 10 points to be Hamilton’s best.
A round six bye led to a round seven battle against Colac Kookas Green, with the Hurricanes winning, 30-28.
Cooper put up 15 points, capping off a strong weekend for the youngster.
Under-16 Girls Division 2
HAMILTON opened up with a round one clash against Horsham Hornets (Morrison), going down 27-32, despite 10 points from Maya Carroll.
BDU Lightning was next up, easily accounting for the Hurricanes, 38-17, as Evie Milne top-scored with four points.
A 15-31 loss to Maryborough in round three saw Carroll and Charlotte Alderman each score four points, before the team had a rest with a round four bye.
The Hurricanes returned to the court for a clash against Warrnambool Mermaids, winning 31-23.
Willow Colliton finished with 11 points for Hamilton, finishing the weekend with a strong performance.
Under-18 Boys Division 1
TRARALGON awaited the Hurricanes in round one, with the T-Birds winning, 48-32, despite 12 points from Matthew Calvert.
Hamilton bounced back in round two, defeating Korumburra with a 30-16 scoreline, led by Abdul Muhktar’s 15 points.
The Hurricanes then took on Border Sports Academy and won, 48-25, as George Clark put up 18 points, before a round four bye freshened the players up.
A 46-33 win against Koroit Saints Red was off the back of 13 points from Muhktar, finishing the weekend with a positive result.
