TARRINGTON Cricket Club has officially unveiled its new nets with the club now able to utilise the three-net structure following its opening on Sunday.
Merv Hughes was among those in attendance for the occasion, with the official proceedings running in conjunction with a junior cricket clinic on the same day.
Club vice-president, Adam Bester said it was a great day for the club and everyone was excited to put the nets to good use.
“It was awesome, it all went really well and the kids had a ball,” he said.
“They learnt a lot from the coaches and had a lot of fun as well.”
The club also acknowledged Len Tonissen’s contribution to the region by unveiling a tribute.
“We headed over to the new Len Tonissen plaque and unveiled that, he organized the reserve and a whole lot of his family came over from Adelaide for the day and that was really special,” Bester said.
As the club continues to forge ahead with plans to grow the club, Bester said the new nets would mean more groups can train at once, opening the door for the more Tigers teams to enter the Hamilton and District Cricket Association.
“The nets are going to mean we can train a lot of different groups at once and I know there has been some interest for using it more for country week carnivals and there will be opportunities for the public to use it as well,” he said.
“We are keen to keep the rejuvenation of the club going, we got a lot more supporters wanting to get involved and we are talking about working with the committee to upgrade the facilities out there, we have got some funding to look at plans for new rooms and in time we want to also upgrade the surface of the oval as well.”
The project was made possible through funding from the Southern Grampians Shire and the Federal Government.
