Junior GSWJFL coaches locked in

THE Hamilton Kangaroos have locked in their Under-11 Greater South West Junior Football League (GSWJFL) coaches for 2022.

Josh Bell will mentor the Hamilton Kangaroos Blue team, while Anthony Ratcliffe will take charge of the Hamilton Kangaroos Orange squad.

Hamilton Kangaroos junior director, Martin Clark said the team will start training tonight with players who are interested encouraged to come along.

“We are looking for more players, we have probably got a team and a half, so we will absolutely welcome others along,” he said.

“Participation is the main thing for kids that age, but over the year they will develop skills in a game format as well.

“This year we are joining the GSWJFL and so they will play games against the likes of Tyrendarra, Portland, Cavendish and so it will be a more a inter-town competition.”

With the two coaches locked in, Clark said it was their ability and experience which made them a good fit for the Under-11 coaching roles.

“Josh coached our Under-16.5 team last year and Anthony Ratcliffe has had various roles and an extensive football history, both as players and officials,” he said.

With the past couple of years being interrupted by COVID restrictions, Clark said the club is hopeful there will be minimal or no disruptions this season, making it easier to keep the kids engaged and in routine.

Tonight’s training session will have a barbecue afterwards with someone from the club there to answer questions and queries parents may have about the league or team.

“The first couple of weeks training will be Tuesdays at 4.30pm at Melville Oval,” Clark said.

“We also have Under-14 training at 4.30pm on Wednesday at Mitchell Park and the club is also putting together an Under-17 team for this year as well.

“I just want to encourage anyone who wasn’t involved last year, get involved in the game and have fun.”

The GSWJFL season gets underway on April 2 and anyone wanting further information can contact the Hamilton Kangaroos Facebook page.
