FORMER Harrow-Balmoral Southern Roo, Eric Guthrie, has topped the Nichols Medal ranks to be joint best and fairest winner in the Northern Territory Football League.
The Palmerston Magpies midfielder had an impressive year, and shared the honour with Nightcliff’s Daniel Bowles.
Guthrie said he had no expectations going into last weekend’s vote count.
“It was a bit of a shock when I actually won,” he said.
“I definitely wasn’t preparing a speech, I had a little sneaky suspicion just through consistency in the season.
“It means a fair bit (to win) actually, there was a fair bit of carry on once I won it,
“It is a good achievement for myself and to do it in black and white colours is very special as well.”
The win offers a highlight to the Magpie, with his team having a tough season, finishing second last with just four wins for the season.
