THE Hamilton Kangaroos will return to Melville Oval today, as South Warrnambool makes the trek up in what shapes up to be a tough test for both the senior football and Open netball teams.
In netball, the Hamilton Kangaroos will return home for an Open netball match-up against South Warrnambool today.
The Roos are coming off a win against Terang-Mortlake and will be hopeful of continuing the good form in the HFNL round 15 clash.
Hamilton matched the Roosters for much of the earlier season battle, eventually going down by nine goals, but with a more settled line-up and a home crowd, the blue and white will be expecting a better performance this afternoon.
It will also be the first time Hollie Phillips returns to Melville Oval, this time in red and white, after the young talent crossed over to South Warrnambool in the off-season, and has dominated in goals for the ladder leaders, who have lost just one game this season and drawn another to sit six points clear.
Hamilton’s best will be required to claim the win against another strong opponent
Meanwhile, in football the Hamilton Kangaroos will return to Melville Oval desperate to claim a top four scalp when they host South Warrnambool in Hampden Football Netball League round 15 action.
The Roos are coming off a seven-point loss to Terang-Mortlake but returning to a familiar environment at home should give the team a boost.
The Roosters got hold of the blue and white earlier in the season by 67 points at Friendly Societies Park, with the Roos dropping games at home to Koroit by 122 points in round 10 and 70 points against North Warrnambool Eagles in round 13.
Hamilton will be desperate to avoid a third straight 10-goal loss at home, as the team looks to create some winning form to finish 2022 on a positive note.
The blue and white has made four changes with Hamish Cook, Deacon White, James Whyte and Ben Starkie all set to miss the clash.
Angus Noske, Mick McMeel, Will Povey and Hugh Douglas come into the side, with Povey set to play his first senior game.
Lachlan Urquhart made his debut last week and has retained his spot.
Roos coach, Hamish Waldron said he was expected another tough contest from the Roosters.
“They will be hard to beat, but it will be nice to play them on our home ground though,” he said.
“It will be nice to get them up here and try and test them up here.
“They probably controlled the game last time and I will be encouraging them to try and link up with hands a bit more this time around.”
The Roos have debuted plenty of youngsters this season and Waldron said with finals now off the radar, it was easier to make the decisions to blood the deserving juniors.
“I like to give them a taste of senior footy,” he said.
“They are up to it, (Will) has been playing some good footy in the Under-18s.
“He leads up at the footy well and he is a good size, hopefully he can get on the end of a few.”
The Roos have kicked 130.159 for the season, which would have been considerably worse if not for 22.11 in round nine, as inaccuracy has plagued the team at times this season.
Hamilton will need to improve its accuracy if it is to match South Warrnambool across the four quarters.
“When you look at the score each week, we usually kick more points than goals which is very frustrating,” he said.
“Had we kicked straight, it could have put us in a lot better position than we are now.
“The scoreboard is what it is, but you always like to see if there is improvement.
“I will look at the stats after the game and see if we have improved.”
