BRANXHOLME-WALLACEDALE Football Netball Club is full steam ahead in a push to finals, announcing their full contingent of football and netball coaches for 2023.
Leigh Ewing will be in charge of the senior footy team, which will be boosted by the re-signing of Tom and Travis Scott, as well as new recruit, Damian Monaghan, while Jason Barker is reserves coach for 2023.
Georgia Muldoon has retained the A grade role this year, with a raft of new and familiar faces making up the rest of the netball coaching group.
Barb Menzel is A Reserve mentor, Kimmy Harman-Myers and Angela Morey will lead the B grade side, while Chelsea Millard will work alongside assistant coach, Julie Parsons in C grade.
Tanya and Jade Millard will guide the 17-and-Under squad, Elizabeth Goodman has returned to the club and will combine with Rhana McCallum as 15-and-Under coaches and Rebecca Kenny is 13-and-Under coach.
Lily Brown and Ella Myers round out the group as 11-and-Under coaches.
Ewing said it has been a productive off-season and pre-season is moving along nicely.
“It has been good, we have re-signed most of our group from last year,” he said.
“Obviously with cricket and basketball it can be tough, but we have had good numbers to training.”
The club has targeted a boost in depth, hoping that will help take the Saints back to finals in what is the 40-year anniversary of the Saints’ 1983 senior South West District Football League premiership.
“It is probably depth, when you get a few injuries they are hard to replace and you will never go through the season without any injuries,” he said.
“We probably know the areas we need to improve on and hopefully we can do that and keep moving up the ladder.
“It (the milestone) will play a role, especially when it comes up to that round, it will be a pretty big day for the club and I think everyone is looking forward to it.”
Muldoon said confidence was growing within the netball group, as the A grade side looks to build momentum early in the season.
“We are feeling really good, it is nice to have all our coaches locked in in the second week of pre-season, which is a fair way ahead of where we were last year,” she said.
“We are really pleased with numbers on the court so far as well.
“In line with the succession plan, we have a massive focus on junior development.”
Going into another season in the top job, Muldoon said she was not getting too carried away despite Goodman and McCallum returning to the club for 2023.
“It is always a challenge, you never really get comfortable in the role but it is nice to have a good support network around the club,” she said.
“Focusing on the little wins will be important for us and looking at our game development and taking those steps forward.”
The club’s netball grading will get underway on March 1.
