Cats eye-off A Grade premiership

CASTERTON Sandford goes into the final round of the 2023 Limestone Coast Women’s Football League season, quietly confident of a minor premiership and its first A Grade grand final as it lines up at Island Park, this weekend.

Friday night saw the Cats obliterate an undermanned Millicent Saints, the scoreline 17.11 (113) to the Saints, no score.

Just five seasons into the competition, the Cats took out their first B Grade grand final last year and this season has seen them drop just one game, against the Mundulla Tigers, in round four.

The Cats currently sit second on the competition ladder, with North Gambier on top by percentage only and with North’s bye, this weekend and the Cats expected to take the points against sixth-placed Kongorong, a minor premiership appears to be on the cards.

While set shots have been a struggle for the Cats throughout the season, goals under pressure have come easily and for Saturday’s best-on, Chloe Foster, finding the goals was an easy feat, the youngster kicking five straight for the match.

Also in the Cats’ best were Gabrielle Sullivan, Hinemoa Biddle-Maitland, Amelia Thomas, Emma Lynch and Libby Altorfer, while Makayla Hutchins kicked four majors, Libby Altorfer kicked three and singles went to Zhane Crawford, Hinemoa Biddle-Maitland, Madi Zuijveld, Paige Richards and Milly Thomas.

The Cats will line up against the Kongorong Hawks at Island Park 1, at 11am, this Sunday.
