Saints celebrate 50 years

IT was a night of reminiscing on past glory, as the St Mary’s Under-18 Hamilton and District Football League premiers gathered for a 50-year reunion on Saturday night.

St Mary’s won the August 25 season decider against St Andrew’s, 8.12 (60) to 5.7 (37), Terry Wilson and captain, Greg McLeod, each kicked two majors in the win, while Dennis Peters was named best on ground for the winners.

With 13 players converging at Alexandra House, it was a late night for many of them, having not seen each other for many years and taking advantage of the fact many had travelled from different parts of the state for the milestone reunion.

The premiership flag, time bell and a playing jumper was all part of the celebration, which was organised by Terry McDonnell and Michael Guy.

Players who have since died were also remembered on the night, including Michael Considine, Grant Newell, Steve McArthur and premiership coach, ‘Bluey’ Donne.
