Jess chases AFLW dream

PENSHURST export, Jess Rentsch, has long been waiting for the coming Monday in the hope that it could be one of the best days of her life and she could hear her name read out at the AFLW National Draft.

The Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels co-captain has been in talks with a number of clubs in the lead up to the draft and hopes to turn her dream of playing in the big time into a reality.

The AFLW competition gives draft prospects the option to nominate to their home state or nationally with Rentsch opting for the latter, opening up significantly more opportunities to be drafted.

The dashing half-back finished the season in style for the Rebels in her final Coates Talent League game, amassing 27 disposals and kicking three goals in the 37-point win over Bendigo Pioneers.

The 18-year-old has co-captained the Rebels this season, represented Vic Country at the Under-18 National Championships, been selected into the AFLW academy and will look to add one more accolade to her impressive CV come Monday night.

The draft is at Marvel Stadium and starts from 7pm, and can be live streamed on the AFL app.
