GLENTHOMPSON-DUNKELD remains one of four undefeated teams in the Mininera and District Netball Association after the second round of the 2024 season.
The Rams join Ararat Eagles, Penshurst and Tatyoon with two wins on the board after their rout of Lismore-Derrinallum at Dunkeld Recreation Reserve on Saturday, 62 to 34.
Rams goal shooter, Jane Robertson, was best-on-court with 40 goals (from 46 shots), as she and Eve Duckmanton (10 goals) and Elise Bibby (12 goals) were strong in goals.
Robertson was joined by Elise Thurman (goal keeper) as the best players for the Rams, as Thurman kept the home side moving forward with repeated turnover ball.
Glenthompson-Dunkeld coach, Laura Matthews was most impressed with several parts of her team’s performance.
“The shooting accuracy of Jane Robertson, who shot at 86 per cent for the game was one highlight,” she said.
“Our team’s versatility within positions and coming off the bench (as the new) rolling subs (rule) has been going well so far.
“Plus, our commitment to defence.”
Even though the team is two from two, Matthews sees areas they must improve on to compete with the tougher opposition coming up.
“Most of our improvements will come from just playing with each other and the familiarity that comes with that, plus working on our give and go when we’re coming out of defence,” Matthews said.
Penshurst d Moyston-Willaura
THE Bombers had the first road trip of the season when it travelled to Willaura Recreation Reserve to tackle Moyston-Willaura, collecting the points with a 52-17 victory.
Penshurst wing attack, Sophie Rentsch, gave her teammates great service throughout the game, as the visitors dominated every quarter with Chloe Foster brilliant with 25 goals, while Leah Mirtschin also stood tall in the goal circle at the defensive end of the court.
The victory sees the Bombers sitting fourth on the premiership ladder with the best defensive stats of the competition, having only allowed 40 goals to be scored in their two games.
Woorndoo-Mortlake d Hawkesdale-Macarthur
HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR travelled to Woorndoo Recreation Reserve looking to keep its winning form intact, but the home side produced a brilliant come from behind second half to win, 47 to 39.
The Eagles hit the court running in the first half to open a six-goal lead at the main break, with Olivia Twaddle on fire in shooting for goal having missed only four attempts.
The Tigers returned for the third quarter to restrict the visitors to only nine goals, while adding 13 of its own to enter the final quarter only two goals behind.
A 16 goals to six final quarter put the game to bed for Woorndoo-Mortlake, as Mia Ritchie (GD) stood tall in defence to repel the attacking raids of the Eagles to earn best-on-court, while Nicole Anderson netted 30 goals to lead the Tigers to victory.
Despite the loss, Hawkesdale-Macarthur remains in the top five via a slim percentage and will play Caramut next week.
