HAMPDEN Football Netball League (HFNL) is celebrating an undefeated Western Association Championships after making a clean sweep of all competitions on Sunday at Warrnambool.
The HFNL was kept to a draw within the 13-and-Under-Reserve grade against Central Highlands which was the only game across the four competitions that HFNL teams didn’t win but there were no outright defeats which is an exceptional result for the league.
Hamilton Kangaroos Football Netball Club had five players spread across the teams representing not only the club but the league too, with Molly Sevior and Maddox Ryan suiting up for the 13-and Under team; Saskia Gould in the 15-and-Under side and the 17-and-Under team featured Ella Sevior and Grace Cleaver.
All five Kangaroos were instrumental in the success of their respective teams as each displayed their undoubted talent and skills.
Hamilton Kangaroos FNC Netball Coordinator, Bec Sherlock was extremely happy for the success the players enjoyed but even more so for how each represented the club.
“For the players to have this opportunity to play at a higher level is exciting for them as they get to test themselves against the best players from across the Western region,” Sherlock said.
“Ella (Sevior), Grace (Cleaver) and Saskia (Gould) are all past representative players for the HFNL teams, but it was a first for Molly (Sevior) and Maddox (Ryan).
“The extra match time they get from competing in the Championships also helps with their individual development too as it only adds to their experience levels.”
The players gain so much from playing at this level that they will deliver back to the club, in terms of experience and skill development from working with different coaches.
“The players return from rep carnivals with newfound confidence in their ability to perform at the higher level that they bring to their club teams, and the experience they gained from working, training and playing under different coaches,” Sherlock said.
“Apart from these five representatives, the club had another two or three players try out for the squads, and we are all very proud of every one of them.
“We encourage all our players to look to the higher levels of the sport, but we don’t force any player into these levels as each player is at different stages of development.
“It’s a big commitment from the players and their parents/guardians as they must attend try outs for three weeks and then attend training in Warrnambool on top of club training each week too.”
Now that all four teams have won the Western Association Championships, they move through to the next level of competition, The Netball Victoria Association Championships Final Day to be held in Parkville against teams from Melbourne later in the season.
