Open finals beckon

HAMILTON Kangaroos sit just outside the top five on the Hampden Football Netball League Open premiership ladder in sixth place, with the Roos on the road to Terang Recreation Reserve to try and grab fifth position today.

Terang-Mortlake stands in the Roos’ way of extending their season, and the Bloods are in slightly better form than their visitors across the last four rounds.

Hamilton Kangaroos have won only one game of its last four (last week against Camperdown), while Terang-Mortlake has had a win, two losses in a draw in the same period.

The Bloods cannot reach the finals but can cause a headache and prevent the Kangaroos from progressing with victory today.

Hamilton will be back to full strength today, as the side looks to reload ahead of a possible finals appearance next week, should the result fall its way today.

“Everyone is available for the game this week with Leesa (Iredell) back,” Hamilton Kangaroos co-coach Emma Sommerville said.

“There’s no changes from the starting line up from last week.”

Sommerville and Ella Sevior form the defensive unit for the Kangaroos along with Molly O’Brien, and these players are integral to the success of the team today as they look to turn the ball over at every opportunity.

“We know Terang has been playing good netball with their draw against Warrnambool being a stand out,” Sommerville said.

“ (As it’s) the last round, they’ll come out strong and want to prove their position for next season.”

The Kangaroos are fully aware of how important this game is and what the result means for the side not only for this season but also going forward.

“We know it’s important for us to get the win and I’m really happy with how the girls have been playing over the last few weeks,” Sommerville said.
