Strong showing for Roos on court

HAMILTON Kangaroos have won back-to-back Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) Open netball games for the first time this season after defeating Port Fairy by nine goals on Saturday.

The round 16 clash at Gardens Oval saw the visitors lead by four goals at the first break and eight goals by half time.

Saskia Gould ensured the visitors got the points, putting up 32 goals, while Grace Cleaver was also important during the game, as Hamilton went on to win, 47-38.

HAMILTON’S Division 1 team went down to Port Fairy by 11 goals, but still remains above the Seagulls in top spot by percentage.

The home side edged out to a four-goal lead at the first break, before extending the margin out to six at half time.

The visitors rallied with a 13-goal third term to lead by one at the final change, before losing 32-43 at full time.

Kelsey Lewis top-scored with 18 goals, while Chloe Riddle was the Roos’ best player.

Division 2 action saw the blue and white lock away fifth spot ahead of finals with a 44-35 victory.

Molly Sevior put up 26 goals, while Tamara Milne was also pivotal to the result for Hamilton.

The Roos’ undefeated Division 3 season continues, with a 27-25 victory.

Just one goal separated the two teams at each break, with the Seagulls leading each time, before a seven goals to four quarter saw Hamilton claim victory.

Lily Raymond finished with 21 goals for the winners, while Mia Spong also had a strong game.

The Kangaroos picked up a rare 17-and-Under win, 31-30, with Cleaver and Bridget Mailes putting up 14 goals each.

Hamilton also won the 15-and-Under game, 42-20 (Gould scored 24 goals), and the 15-and-Under Reserves, 47-8 (Raymond scored 30 goals).

The 13-and-Under clash went the Roos way, 33-1, with Leni Robertson scoring 17 goals, and the 13-and-Under Reserves game also went Hamilton’s way, 37-2, thanks to 24 goals from Willow Colliton.

Football

THE Hamilton Kangaroos continued their late season form, knocking off Port Fairy by 15 points in HFNL round 16 action on Saturday.

The Roos travelled to Gardens Oval off the back of a 20-point loss the previous week, and dominated the first term to kick 4.3 and go into quarter time with a six-point lead.

A five goals to two second term saw the visitors create breathing space on the scoreboard, leading by 24 points at the main break.

The Seagulls edged closer in the second half, but Hamilton held on to win, 14.11 (95) to 12.8 (80).

Rory Gill kicked five goals for the Roos and was named the team’s best player.

Other games

THE Hamilton Kangaroos were on the other end of the result in the reserves clash, going down by 48 points to Port Fairy.

The visitors trailed by 14 points at quarter with the margin growing at each break, as the Roos went down, 6.2 (38) to 13.8 (86).

Brent Mullins kicked two majors for Hamilton, while Tom Fitzgerald was the Roos’ best on ground.

Hamilton’s Under-18 team dominated the Seagulls, winning the round 16 clash by 90 points.

Port Fairy was kept to just one goal for the game, as the visitors piled on the goals to win, 15.8 (98) to 1.2 (8).

Eddie McShane bagged three majors for the Roos, while Jack Jennings was the team’s best player.
