Raymond wins HFNL Div 3 best and fairest

HAMILTON Kangaroos’ Lily Raymond won the Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) Division 3 best and fairest with 27 votes on Sunday.

Raymond, who also plays 15-and-Under games each week, finished four votes clear of joint runner-ups, North Warrnambool Eagles’ Rebecca Pederson and Camperdown’s Hannah Plozza, to collect the Symone Moloney Medal.

The 15-year-old said it surprised her to win in her first season playing senior netball.

“It is very special, I am very thankful and I have enjoyed playing seniors and I hope to do it again next year as well,” she said.

“It is a nice big of recognition, I didn’t expect it, but the girls got around me.

“I wasn’t too sure before the day, but I have had a pretty good season.”

Raymond is kept busy on Saturdays, playing 15-and-Under before backing up straight away for Division 3, and usually plays in goals.

The Monivae College student said learning from other players also helped develop her skills during the season.

“It was good to have those older and more experienced players to balance the court out,” she said.

“My coaches, Deb (Pither) and Taylah (Casey), have helped me a lot as well.”

Raymond is setting her sights on playing in the 17-and-Under team in 2025, with fitness the main thing she hopes to work on ahead of the new season.

“Thanks to my coaches, Deb and Taylah, my teammates and my parents.”
