A FIELD of 49 men played in Saturday’s monthly medal stroke event, with Brian Walker having a day out, claiming the Monthly Medal and B grade’s top honour.
Walker finished six shots clear of the next person with 65 nett, with Nick O’Brien finishing runner-up with 71 nett and a visitor from Medway Golf Club, Simon Gerada, claiming third on a countback with 75 nett.
John Raymond continued his good form this year to claim the A grade honour with 72 nett.
Raymond’s total was one better than runner-up, John Warden and Phil Schultz, who finished second and third after the pair returned with 73 nett.
Ball run down went to Paul Ryan 74, Christopher Eales, Graham Rentsch, John Andrews, Noel Jennings 75 nett, Cameron McDonald, John Sharrock, Peter Jensen, Mal Groves and Rob Stagoll 76 nett.
A four-way countback sorted out the women’s Saturday results with Rhonda Scullion taking first place from runner-up, Di Sevior, while third went to Di Raymond and fourth went to Dawn Cay after all four returned with 76 nett on their scorecards.
Nearest the pins went to Groves and Sue Walter on the third, Noel Jennings and Di Raymond on the sixth, while Graham Rentsch and Deb Pinniger saluted on the 13th.
Steven Coate and Di Raymond claimed the honour on the 16th, while the closest second shot on the ninth went to Jamie Caruana and Paul Ryan claimed the award on the 15th.
Tuesday
THE emerging golfers took to the course with 13 players contesting a nine-hole competition with Di MacKirdy winning with 27 points.
Nicky Martin was runner-up with 26 points, while Helen Dillon managed 25 and Chantal Butcher finished with 24.
The remaining beginner golfers are continuing to progress and it won’t be long before they will be playing nine holes.
Results from the club’s annual Rose Bowl event which was held yesterday will be published next week.
Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
Wednesday
IT was a good turnout with 44 players participating in the Monthly Medal stroke event, which also included a round of the Laidlaw Cup and putting competition.
Shellie Peardon had the standout round, claiming the medal and topping the A grade ranks in the process.
Peardon finished the round with 72 nett ahead of runner-up, Scullion, who claimed second on a countback from Jeanette Carmichael after they both finished with 75 nett.
Enid Smith and Jo Forsyth rounded out the better scores with 77 nett.
The B grade honour went to Val Linke with 77 nett, to edge out runner-up, Gaynor Eats, by one shot with the better scores going to Jane Bunge and Carolyn Lewis with both returning to the clubhouse with 79 nett.
The putting competition was won by Carmichael with 27 putts.
Nearest the pins went to Bunge on the third, and Di Hatherell on the sixth and 16th.
The longest putt on the ninth went to Lesley Hobbs, while Carmichael impressed on the 13th to claim the prize.
