PARKLANDS Golf Club members were saddened to hear of the passing of past member Sandra McCaskill last week.
Many will remember Sandra’s prowess as a golfer, and her ability to hole out on the par threes in one shot on numerous occasions.
Our sincere condolences go to Con and her Family.
Saturday
SOME threatening clouds chased our golfers around the course during the stableford event, but no rain fell, so all was well.
George Donaldson showed winning form with 38 points, edging out Vince O’Brien on 36 points and Mark Miller on 35 points on a countback from Barry Oldaker and Allan Hitchcock.
Nearest the pins were won by Mark Miller on the second and 13th, Dale Grambeau on the fifth, and the 11th was won by Kelly Hitchcock.
Longest putts went to Gaye Goggin on the first, Miller on the 16th and Bruce Taylor on the 17th and 18th
Longest, straightest drive on the ninth and birdies and ferrets went to Heather Wilkinson.
Friday
BARRY Oldaker again took out the nine-hole stroke win with a nett 31 1/2 from runner-up, Stewart Turner, who recorded 32 1/2.
Oldaker holed the longest putt on the first, Bruce Taylor was closest to the flag on the 13th and Bob Warburton won the birdies and ferrets.
Thursday
IN mixed conditions compared to round one, the ladies completed their rounds before the rain came across the course.
The second round was a stroke event and Irene Box completed an excellent round to come in with an 87-15-72 ahead of Mary McCallum 19-36-73.
Nearest the pins went to Box on the second and Marie Cook on the 13th.
Longest putts were taken out by Heather Wilkinson on the first, McCallum on the 17th and Gaye Goggin on the 18th.
Wilkinson took out the birdies and ferrets, while Cook landed the longest, straightest drive on the ninth.
Wednesday
IT doesn’t pay to linger too long on the fairways as the final group found out, being caught in a shower of rain amid the 13-hole stableford event.
Our two senior players took out the awards today with Les Pye on 26 points beating Bill Evans on 24, ahead of Mark Miller on 23.
Nearest the pins went to David Rendell on the second, the 13th honours went to Phil Kosch, and Miller was closest on the 15th.
Cook won the birdies and ferrets.
Monday
THE first round of the club’s ladies championship event was a stroke and was played in wonderful conditions for this time of the year; short sleeves towards the end of May were magical.
The runaway winner was Cook, who continued her dynamic run with a score of 97-28-69, to finish clear of runner-up, Heather Hay, on 105-30-75 who claimed second on a countback from Heather Wilkinson.
Nearest the pin on the 15th was Box, who also had the longest putt on the first and 18th.
The longest putt on the 17th went to Marg Donehue, while Wilkinson won the birdies and ferrets and hit the longest, straightest drive.
This week
THE final two rounds of the ladies championships will be played on Monday and Thursday, hopefully in dry conditions, although it is not looking too bright as I prepare this.
Saturday will be a stableford round with visitors welcome, 12pm for 12.30pm hit off.
