THIS past week Parkland’s Golf Club held its annual tournament, with a week of teams events that were enjoyed by members and visitors from around the region.
It was conducted with conditions finally improving with warm spring sunshine peaking tentatively through.
Monday
A LARGE field competed for the ladies teams 4BBB aggregate stableford event with visitors from Hamilton, Grampians and Heywood.
The winning team with 56 points was Jenny Rowe and Shirley Ness.
A close second on 55 points was Sue Irvine and Heather Wilkinson.
The Spectator Trophy for the event individual winner was Kelly Hitchcock.
Hitchcock won a count back from Rowe after both finished with 31 points.
Hitchcock’s winning round included longest straightest drive (LSD) on the ninth by a Parklands Club member.
The LSD on the ninth by a visitor was won by Pam Howell
Wednesday
GOLFERS largely enjoyed playing this open teams 4BBB stableford event in a combination of fine sunny spring conditions, followed by winter rain for those late back into the clubhouse.
Barry Oldaker and Vincent O’Brien won comfortably with 45 points, four points ahead of second-placed Bruce Taylor and Alex Walter.
Nearest the pins on the second was won by Walter, Taylor on the fifth, Oldaker on the 13th and O’Brien on the 15th.
The longest putt on the first was won by Oldaker, Taylor on the 16th by Taylor, and O’Brien on the 17th.
The LSD on the ninth and the longest putt on the 18th were won by Anne Dickerson.
Friday
THE rain cleared for a mostly sunny day for the ladies three-person Irish Stableford teams event.
There were visitors from Edenhope, Hamilton, Coleraine and Grampians Golf Clubs.
The winning tri-team with 66 stableford points was Irene Box, Toby Salter and Rowe.
Second tri-team with 57 stableford net points was Helen Holcombe, Venita Mibus and Deidre Simpkin.
Parklands members nearest the pin was Box on the second and 15th, and Irvine on the fifth and 13th.
Visitors nearest the pin was C. Heenan on the second and 13th, Holcombe on the fifth and M. Ferguson on the 13th.
LSD on the ninth was M. McCallum for Parklands and D. Norris for the visitors
Sunday
THE four-person ambrose was the final event of the Annual Parkland’s Golf Tournament with visiting teams from Casterton, Coleraine, Macarthur, Merino, Hamilton, Heywood and Grampians Golf Clubs.
It was a close finish with the team of Gaye and Simon Goggin, Steve Nattrass and Heather Wilkinson with a round of 66 to win the open competition by one stroke.
The unlucky second-placed team was Kelly and Alan Hitchcock, Mark Miller and Dale Grambeau.
The handicap winning team was Barry Oldaker, Vincent O’Brien Phil Kosch and Graeme Torney with a net score of 59.8.
They were three strokes clear on handicap of the next best handicap team, comprising Lex Cassidy, Chris Marchant, Russell King and Hugh McFarlane, (all from Macarthur)
Nearest the pins were won by P. and S. Irvine on the second, L. Cassidy and D. Cay on the fifth, Grambeau on the 13th and S. Goggin and D. Cay on the 15th.
The LSD on the ninth was won by H. Templeton and I. Box.
Next week
PARKLANDS is holding a stroke competition this coming Saturday for the club’s Monthly Medal.
