Parklander Candour

WELCOME back to news from the Parklands Golf Club and a belated Happy New Year to all golfers.

Golf has continued through January with varying size fields due to the weather and members taking the chance for a break away, however now the holiday season is over we will be back to larger fields again.

Summer has well and truly arrived and the hotter days are testing out the endurance of some players as well as the course.

Work on the course continues with the reversal of holes seven and eight well under way, with the plan to have it complete by April.

The oiled sandscrapes have received a lot of positive comments from both members and visitors.

Saturday

GOLF continued through January with the Monthly Medal going to Bruce Taylor with 89-21-68.

A pinehurst event was played last Saturday with Allan Flavell and Terry Rhook topping the scores with nett 61 from Mark Miller and Alex Walter on 62 1/2.

Nearest the pins went to Flavell on the second, Taylor on the third, George Donaldson on the fifth, Graeme Torney on the eighth, Rhook on the 11th, and Oldaker doubled up on the 13th and 15th.

Longest putts were awarded to Walter on the first, Oldaker the 17th and Barry Elvery on the 18th, while the longest, straightest drive on the ninth went to Elvery.

Birdies and ferrets was won by Rhook.

Friday

A STROKE event was played for the summer competition over holes 10-18, with Oldaker winning with nett 33 1/2 from Heather Wilkinson on 36.

Oldaker has continued to feature in all results over January, playing consistent golf.

Wednesday

A GROUP of stalwarts took to the fairways to play a 13-hole stableford event and it was one of our more senior members who took out the win, Les Pye, who returned with 29 points.

Pye held off George Donaldson, Peter Irvin and Alex Walter in a three way countback after they all finished with 26 points.

Nearest the pin on the fifth was Allan Peace and Pye on the 13th.

Longest putt on the first went to Walter, while Bill Evans won Birdies and Ferrets.

Monday

This week
