LAST Saturday was a stroke event, Monthly Medal for the men and a round of Kavell Lyons Cup for the women.
A good field of 58 men and 12 women took to the course in ideal conditions, as Noel Jennings claimed February’s Monthly Medal on a countback from Chuck Raymond after both finish with 71 nett.
Raymond took out A grade, with Mark Williams one shot behind on 72 nett, while Chris Crane rounded out the placings with 73 nett.
Jennings was B grade winner, with Kevin King one shot off the pace on 72 nett, and Greg Gunn taking third spot with 73 nett.
Balls down the line in A grade went to Brent Bell, Mark Russell, Jason McIntosh all 74 nett, John Hill and Steven Coates 75 nett, and B grade honours went to Kynan Caruana and Bruce Luhrs 73 nett, Jamie Caruana and Brady Hicks 74 nett, and Graham Trounce 75 nett.
Nearest the pins went to Crane on the third, Bell on the sixth and 16th, and Cameron McDonald on the 13th, while the closest second shot on the ninth went to Mark Russell and Jim King collected the same honour on the 15th.
The women’s event saw Deb Pinniger continue her recent good form, winning with 74 nett, with a three-way countback separating runner-up, Sue Walter, third-placed Alma Fonda and Kerryn Price in fourth after all finished with 77 nett.
Price had her eye in on the par threes, claiming nearest the pins on the third and sixth, while Pinniger got the 16th and Walter’s was the closest second shot on the 15th.
Wednesday
THE women’s competition was a stableford event with a great roll up of 59 players and some very good scores recorded.
A grade was won by Price with 39 points from the very consistent Ath Archer three points further back.
Marg Hadley won B grade with 39 points, two clear of runner-up, Dawn Cay.
C grade winner and player of the day was Helen Beattie with 41 points, with Jenny Edwards runner-up with 37 points.
Ball run down went to Sue Vickery, Carolyn Lewis and Di Hatherell 36 points, Fran McMeel and Deb Chambers 35.
Nearest the pins went to Jo Forsyth on the third, Sue Morse on the sixth, and Deb Chambers on the 16th, while the longest putt on the 13th was by Gillian Jenkins and the closest second shot on the 15th went to Price.
Today is a stableford event for men and women with the men playing the third round of the WL Proud Trophy.
Upcoming events
THERE is a lot happening at our golf club over the next couple of months.
Next Tuesday the ‘Get into Golf’ beginners classes start and will run for five weeks on a Tuesday morning in a relaxed and fun environment; golfing PGA pro, Daniel Defelice, will be running three of the five sessions.
Western District Health Services will be holding its annual four-person ambrose event on February 24.
Legacy Day, which is also a four-person ambrose event, is on February 26.
Club championships will begin soon with the men commencing on February 25 and the women commencing on March 8 with a joint final round day on March 19.
Hamilton will also be hosting the Victorian Veteran Golf Association 4BBB Championships on March 20 and 21, which should bring a number of visitors from all over the state to the course.
The annual Elders Rural Challenge is locked in for March 31 and will be a four-person ambrose.
