A BIG field of players took to the course on Saturday with 69 men and 21 women playing a stableford event.
The men’s event was the third round of the WL Proud Trophy, with best two scores out of the three rounds to count.
The winner of this event was Rob Stagoll with 78 points, closely followed by John Andrews two points off the pace.
A grade was won by Adam Manson with 39 points, ahead of runner-up, John Hill, on a countback from Chuck Raymond after both returned with 37 points.
B grade winner and player of the day was Cameron Mcdonald with a very handy 42 points, two shots clear of John Warden and Robert Stagoll, who both had very good rounds.
C grade was won by Rob Harris with 37 points, while Kevin Manson returned with 36 to finish second and third went to Neville Osborn with 34.
Ball run down – A grade Mark Russell 37 points and Michael Holcombe 35, B grade Greg Stevens 39 and John Andrews 38, and C grade Philip Gough 33 and Phil Grant 31.
Nearest the pins went to Brent Bell on the third, Jason McIntosh on the sixth, Tim Walkenhorst on the 13th, and Mal Groves on the 16th.
The closest second shot on the ninth went to McIntosh, while George McLean collected the honour on the 15th.
The women’s competition was won by Vicki Anderson, a fairly new player who is continuing to improve each week.
Anderson finished with a great score of 42 points, three clear of runner-up, Robyn Holcombe.
Balls down the line went to Helen Holcombe 39 points, Sally Warburton 38, Dawn Cay 37, Margie Hadley, Jenny Fishburn and Karol Walkenhorst 36.
Nearest the pins went to Anderson on the third, Cay on the 16th and the closest second shot on the 15th was won by Pam White.
Tuesday
A GROUP of 12 new players participated in the first session of the beginners clinic under the watchful eye of golf pro, Daniel Defelice.
There was also 12 emerging golfers participating in the morning clinic.
Daniel also held a number of individual lessons in the afternoon and will be back on February 28, so if you are keen for a lesson, contact the club for details.
Wednesday
THE women’s competition was the first round of the Spectator Trophy, a stableford event, with 53 players taking to the course in ideal conditions.
A grade was won by Rachel Slade with a very handy 41 points from Jo Forsyth on 39.
B grade winner Shellie Peardon 37 points on a countback from Di Raymond, while C grade honours went to Carolyn Lewis with 41 points, one ahead of runner-up, Bec Small.
Balls down the line went to Jenny Edwards 39 points, Jeanette Carmichael 37, Sue Vickery, Ath Archer, and Rhonda Scullion 36.
Nearest the pins went to Gina Kelly on the third, White on the sixth, and Eileen Robertson on the 16th.
The longest putt on the 13th was struck by Di Hatherell, and closest second shot on the 15th went to Anne Ryan.
Next Wednesday will be the second round of Spectator Trophy and will be a par event.
Five women played in the nine-hole event with Judy Thornton claiming first place with 20 points from Jill Walkenhorst on 17.
Upcoming events
THE course is in fabulous condition and there will be a lot of golf being played over the next few weeks with a number of special events coming up.
Western District Health Services will be holding its annual four-person ambrose on Friday, followed by the Legacy Day which is also a four-person ambrose event, schedule for February 26.
Club Championships will begin soon with the men commencing next Saturday and the women commencing on March 8; a joint final round day will be held on March 19.
Hamilton will also be hosting the Victorian Veteran Golf Association 4BBB Championships on March 20 and 21, which should bring a number of visitors from all over the state to the course.
The annual Elders Rural Challenge is being held on March 31 in a four-person ambrose format.
