PARKLANDER CANDOUR

THIS week’s golfers at Parkland Golf Club participated in three different formats of our wonderful game of Golf.

Saturday was a stroke round, Tuesday a round of par, with a stableford event on Wednesday.

Saturday

THE day double as the first round of the club’s men’s championships in conjunction with our Monthly Medal event.

It was great to see so many keen members to compete in the championships - good golfing to all.

The Monthly Medal winner was Barry Oldaker, who returned with a score of 89-20-69, while runner-up and voucher winner, James Brown, was one shot further back with 72-2-70.

Bruce Taylor claimed third on a countback from Stewart Turner with nett 73, with Marie Cook fifth on nett 74.

Nearest the pins went to Mark Miller on the second, Oldaker on the fifth, Cook on the 13th and Taylor on the 15th.

Heather Wilkinson holed the longest putt on the first, Cook on the 16th, Brown on the 17th and Steve Nattrass on the 18th.

Heather Hay claimed the birdies and ferrets, with Turner mastering his short game to finish the day with 22 and the putting honours.

This Saturday will be a stableford event with all welcome for the noon start.

Friday

NOBODY braved the wintry weather on Friday for the final round of our Fast Five Friday fun day for emerging and first-time players along with Parklands’ golfers to enjoy the fun.

We will revisit this format later in the year.

Our ladies travelled to Mooralla Golf Club on Friday for the 4BBB event.

Congratulations to Hay and Mary McCallum, who finished in second place; well done ladies.

Wednesday

IT was a stableford across the inward nine holes plus the first, second and ninth.

Turner had a better result, winning on a countback from Marie Cook both with 24 points, while Oldaker finished third with 23 points.

Nearest the pin on the 13th went to Cook, John Wilkinson holed the longest putt on the first, and Oldaker collected the birdies and ferrets.

This Wednesday’s event will be played across the outward nine plus 10,13,14 and 18.

All golfers welcome for the noon start.

Tuesday

PAR results were mixed, as players found it very challenging against the par of the course.

Gaye Goggin topped the ranks after she finished square, ahead of runner-up, Jodie McGregor, who was three down, while Monica Kealy was four down to finish third.

Nearest the pins went to Kealy on the eighth, and Cook on the 15th, while longest putt honours went to Irene Box on the first and Hay on the 17th and 18th.

Cook collected the birdies and ferrets honour.

Next Tuesday will be an Irish Stableford.

All golfers welcome with the round getting underway at 9.30am.
