BUNKER SHOTS

WITH the wet and wintery weather upon us, there hasn’t been a lot of golf played over the past week.

Wednesday and Thursday’s competition were cancelled with the course closed due to the heavy conditions.

Saturday

A small field of 25 men took part in last week’s competition, which was the June monthly medal and stroke event.

Shane Ryan had a very good day, playing consistent golf to take home the medal with an 85 (16-handicapp) 69 nett, with Jason Chandler taking out runner up on a countback from Marten Chin, both with 71 nett.

Balls down the line went to Chin 71 nett, Eli Potts 73 nett, Graham Rentsch, Greg Stevens, Tony O’Connor and Tim Walkenhorst all finish with 74 nett.

Nearest the pin on the 3rd went to Wayne Riddle, with Paul Ryan taking the 6th hole, Marten Chin 13th and Jason Chandler the 16th. Second Shot on 9th went to Jason Chandler and second shot on 15th was claimed by Eli Potts.

Tuesday

The beginners and emerging golfers had 14 players play 9 holes. Players found the heavy conditions challenging but there were still some very good scores with James Bull and Harriet Keatley both finishing with 25pts. In the emerging group Joanna Austin posted the best score with 17pts ahead of Alan McLaughlan 14pts.

The golfing life of Ath Archer

The Club would like to wish long time life member Ath Archer all the best for her 90th birthday.

Ath has been Club Champion 12 times as well as winning numerous events throughout the district over her golfing career and representing Western District numerous times at Country Teams.

Ath has played a significant role in women’s golf in Hamilton, with her involvement in our women’s beginner’s clinics for over 42 years, with most of our current members having had Ath’s assistance with their golfing game.

She has held many roles within the Club including Captain, President and Handicapper as well as roles on the Western District Association committee.

Ath has also scored two holes in one, something all golfers aspire to.

Please check to see if the course has reopened for today’s event which is stableford after all the heavy rain over the past few days.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
