Bunker shots

SATURDAY was the second round of the Rountree Hyslop Cup 4BBB Par event with 69 players taking part.

Mal Groves and Paul Ryan posting the best score of the day with +9, with Tim Roll and Ben Kelson claiming second spot on a countback from Bruce Luhrs and Barry Raymond after both pairs returned +8.

Balls down the line went to Stephen Astbury and Graham Rentsch, Jim King and Brent Bell +7, John Andrews and John Sharrock, Jan Kautsky and Trevor Wathen, Ian Ferguson and Rob Stagoll +6

Nearest the pin on the third went to Jim King, Mark O’Brien took out the sixth hole honour, Trevor Wathen won the 13th, and Troy Elliott was nearest on the 16th hole.

The closest second shot on the 15th went to Ryan

The Rountree Hyslop Cup was an aggregate over two rounds of golf, and the cup was won by Kelson and Roll with a total of +17, with the next closest pair finishing five shots back, Cameron McDonald and Ross Murray.

Third place went to Groves and Ryan, with Stephen Giles and Martin Pitts +11, and Michael Holcombe and Michael Kelso +10.

There was only five women playing in stableford competition, and Robyn Holcombe won with 35 points from Karel Walkenhorst on 34.

Nearest the pin on the third went to Walkenhorst, the sixth hole went to Vicki Anderson, 13th and 16th holes went to Holcombe, and the closest second shot on the 15th went to Molly O’Brien.

Wednesday

THE women had 33 players playing par and the third round of the RA Christie Trophy.

Gerri Griffin had the best score of the round with +4 to take out B grade, with Jenny Fishburn runner-up with +3.

A grade was a close affair with Alma Fonda winning on a countback from Glen Dixon after both finished with +1.

Balls down the line went to Liz Nichol +2, along with Nola Beks and Bev Tyson square.

Nearest the pin on the third hole went to Kavell Lyons, the sixth went to Gerri Griffin, the 16th went to Pam Howell, while longest putt on 13th was holed by Gerri Griffin, and closest second shot on the 15th went to Venita Mibus.

Twilight

WEDNESDAY twilight had 28 players take to the course and first place was decided on a three-way countback.

Giles claimed victory from Chris Crane and then Wayne Millard with the trio finishing on 20 points.

Ross Murray finished with 19 and then Glenn Hards and Martin Pitts rounded out the better scores with 18.

Tuesday

THE beginners and emerging golfers played the back nine this week with 10 players participating.

Helen Dillon had the best score with 22 points from Kerry Martin 20 and Michelle Schultz 19.

If anyone is looking to get back into golf and not ready to jump into the main competitions, there will be a nine-hole competition on Tuesdays called the Martin Optometry Competition.

This will be a stableford ‘no stress’ competition and the club is hoping to commence this event next week, hitting off from 9am.

Out and about

THE Hamilton team of Sue Walter, Alma Fonda, Di Sevior and Val Linke were winners of the Nell Smithett Memorial Trophy at Horsham last week with a score of 105 points (best three of four scores).

Walter also won the A grade with 37 points, while Val Linke was runner-up in B grade with 36 on a countback.

Di Raymond had a good round in the Western District Golf Association Sandscrape Championship handicap event at Balmoral last week, winning with 73 nett.

Upcoming Events

WESTERN District Health Service (WDHS) are holding their annual four-person ambrose event on November 17; entries through community liaison department at WDHS.

Hamilton Golf Club will host its annual tournament from November 23-26, and entries are now being taken.
