Bunker shots

A FIELD of 54 men and 20 women played par on Saturday.

The men were competing in the final round of the Spectator Trophy which was double points round, and the winner will be announced next week.

A grade was won by Dale Grambau on a countback from John Warden +1, with David Edwards taking out third place on -1.

B grade saw Kedar Giles enjoy a strong day on the course, finishing with the best score of the day on +5, finishing ahead of runner-up, Danny Franc +2, and third-placed Harry Armstrong who finished square.

Balls down the line went to James Witham and Rob Stagoll square, Greg Stevens, Tom Sobey, Chuck Raymond, Jim King, Jack Hutchins and Nathan Caruana -1, Brent Bell, Wayne Picken, Warren Butcher, Rob Vecchiet and Alan Oakley -2.

Nearest the pin and superpin on the third hole was won by Giles, taking home $113 for his effort.

The sixth hole went to John Warden, 13th to Giles, and the 16th went to John Raymond.

The closest second shot on the ninth was struck by John Mitchell, with Jason Chandler claiming the honour on the 15th.

In the women’s section, Alma Fonda continued her good form with a very handy +3 to win from Di Hatherell on +1.

Balls down the line went to Chantal Butcher square, Robyn Holcombe -1, Karen Payne -3, Bev Tyson, Dawn Cay and Liz Nichol -4.

Nearest the pin on the third was Chantal Butcher, Alma Fonda took out the 13th and also hit the closest second shot on the 15th, while Tyson had a good shot on the 16th to also be nearest the pin.

Wednesday

THE women’s event had 46 playing in a stableford competition.

A grade winner was Debbie Milne on a countback from Gerri Griffin after both finished with 34 points.

B grade was won by Kath Hartwich with 36 from Gail Dimond 33.

Balls down the line went to Lyn Satchell 33, Judy Thornton 32, Jan Hornell, Marlene Clarke, Enid Smith, Deb Pinniger and Jenny Fishburn all with 31.

Satchell took out nearest the pin on third hole and also hit the closest second shot on the 15th, Sue Vickery was closest on the 16th, and Deb Pinniger had the longest putt on the 13th hole.

Next Wednesday is our Gala Day, a two-person pinehurst event.

Players are encouraged to wear bright colours, in what should be a fun event.

Tuesday

ANOTHER good turn up in the beginner and emerging golfer groups as well as the nine-hole competition. 

Jill Walkenhorst won the nine-hole competition with 19 points from Wendie Stephens and Jane Heazlewood, both finishing on 16.

In the beginner’s group, Grant Hornell continued his good form to win with 31, from Sally Bensch 28 and Robert Claffey 27.

The emerging golfers group saw Louise Kelsen and Jen Upton have great rounds, both finishing with 23, with Joanna Austin finishing on 19.

Upcoming events

THE club will be holding a trivia night on May 31.

This was a great night last year, so I would encourage you to get your friends together for a great night out - to book, contact the club.

There is another Paint and Sip night at the clubhouse on June 14 at 6.30pm.

The club has started nine-hole events on Friday afternoons - hit off after 2.30pm and costs $15, which includes a schooner or glass of wine as well.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
