WINTER, the season of the year when golfers layer up to keep warm, unearth their wet weather apparel and lament the fact that their golf ball doesn’t travel the distance they would like it to.

Certainly, now the days are colder than they were, however, the precipitation is infrequent thus allowing for some continued run on the fairways.

Saturday

A fine but cool day greeted the players to contest a stableford event.

There were some good scores recorded reflecting the good condition of the course.

Winner of the day was George Donaldson with 39 points ahead of Sue Irvin, Barry Oldaker and Allan Hitchcock all on 38 points.

Nearest the pins went to John Wilkinson on the 2nd, Mark Miller on the 3rd, Bruce Taylor on the 5th, Oldaker on the 7th, Graeme Torney on the 11th, Allan Flavell on the 13th and Donaldson on the 15th.

Longest putters were Sue Irvin on the 1st, Peter Irvin on the 16th, Bernie Cook on the 17th and Alex Walter on the 18th.

Birdies and Ferrets was won by Kelly Hitchcock.

Longest, Straightest drive on the ninth went to Peter Irvin.

Friday

A reasonable number of players ventured out to play a stroke round over the original nine holes.

The winner was Bruce Taylor with a nett 34 just ahead of George Donaldson with a 34.5 and Barry Oldaker on 35.

Nearest the pin on the 2nd was Mark Miller and, on the 13th, Oldaker.

Longest putt on the 1st went to Les Pye.

Wednesday

A stableford event was played over 12 holes with Alex Walter playing consistent golf to record 28 points and the win, ahead of George Donaldson on 26 and Bill Evans on 25,

Nearest the pin on the 2nd was Brian Mibus and the 13th Les Pye.

Stewart Turner holed the longest putt and Evans won Birdies and Ferrets.

Tuesday

Fresh conditions faced the players to compete in a two-person ambrose, draw for partner.

Recording an excellent score of 87, (61 nett) were Toby Salter and Gina Kelly from runners-up Irene Box and Gaye Goggin 81 (63 nett).

Nearest the pins were awarded to Irene Box on the 5th and 7th, Kelly on the 13th, and the 15th went to Heather Wilkinson.

The longest putt on the 1st went to Goggin, Jaymie Broad on the 17th and Box on the 18th.

Kelly was drawn out for Birdies and Ferrets and Wilkinson secured the longest, straightest drive on the 9th.

This week

Golf will be played on Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the event on Saturday to be round one of the Russell Family Trophy.

This is an 18-hole, 4BBB Par event with round two to be played the following Saturday.
