HAMILTON Golf Club’s ladies team was successful, winning the Morton Shield last week at Portland.
This event has been running for 52 years and is played between Ballarat, Midlands, Buninyong, Colac, Chalambar, Warrnambool, Portland and Hamilton Golf Clubs.
It is an 18-hole matchplay event, where points are awarded depending on the outcome of each individual match.
It has been 23 years since Hamilton has won this event, with the team winning four out of their five matches.
Hamilton was represented by Enid Smith, Gerri Griffin Robyn Holcombe, Kerryn Price, Debbie Milne and Alma Fonda
Saturday
A FIELD of 58 men participated in men’s stableford with some very good scores.
Graham Rentsch played one under the course par to finish with 41 points, finishing one clear of runner-up, Troy Elliott, with Stuart McAdam rounding out the placings on 39.
The B grade winner was Wayne Millard who also had a day out, finishing with 42 to win from John Sharrock and Ty Raymond, both on 40.
Balls down the line went to Kim Fielk, Eli Potts, Jim King and Mark O’Brien 38, Rob Stagoll, Jon Manson, Robbie Cunningham 37, along with Tim Walkenhorst, Luke Balkin and Rob Harris 36.
Well done to Balkin who scored an eagle on the 18th.
Mal Groves was on target, taking on the nearest to the pin on third and 16th holes, as well as hitting the closest second shot on the 15th.
Nearest the pin on the sixth was Greg Stevens, John Andrew on the 13th, and the closest second shot on the ninth went to Chris Crane.
Twenty women played on the day and Anne Ryan was back in form with a very good score of 41 to win from Kerryn Price on 39.
Balls down the line went to Gillian Jenkins 37, Vicki Anderson, Robyn Holcombe, Sally Warburton 36, Joan Lewis 35, along with Michelle Walkley and Gerri Griffin 34.
Kerryn Price was so close to having two hole in ones, finishing less than one foot from the pin on the 16th hole to claim the super pin prize of $94, and then she was even closer on the third hole, finishing around eight inches from the hole.
Price is yet to have a hole in one, but it can’t be too far away with those two shots.
Nearest the pin on the sixth hole was Karel Walkenhorst, while the closest second shot on the ninth was also Price, with Tania Cullinane saluting on the 15th.
Wednesday
IT was a two-person Pinehurst event with Price and Liz Nichol combining to take out first place with 74.25 nett, from Suzanne Bensch and Gail Dimond on 75.875.
Nearest the pin on the third hole went to Glen Dixon, Price on the sixth, and Rita Walkom on the 16th.
The longest putt on the 13th was holed by Lesley Hobbs, while the closest second shot on the 15th was a combination of Alexandra Kelso and Jen Upton.
Tuesday
THE beginner’s group was won by Cate Mercer-Grant on 19 points from Kris Fox on 15.
In the emerging golfer group, the winner was Karyn Dyson with 22 from Joanna Austin 19 and Max Gough 18.

It starts with a women’s stroke event on Wednesday, followed by a men’s and women’s 4BBB on Friday, a mixture of men’s stroke 36-hole championship, along with an 18-hole stableforf for men and women on Saturday, before the competition wraps up on Sunday with a four-person gentsomes.
Our visiting professional golfer, Craig Davis, will be holding lessons tomorrow, bookings are to be made with Marg King.
