GLENELG Region Hockey Association began its 2024 season on Friday night, with games continuing through the weekend, with a host of new rules being implemented within the senior grades.
Division one in both men’s and women’s grades will see six teams compete in both competitions with the association voting to set a minimum age restriction on players before they are allowed to play.
A player must be aged over 14 and those that are still under 15 years old will require a permit to play as player safety is paramount, while boys will not be allowed to take the field in women’s division one games unless there are no substitutes available.
Younger players wishing to play in division four must be under 13 years old, but a permit may be given to a player if they are under 14 with the individual’s ability taken in account, even during games with the permit revoked if it’s decided the player’s skill level is too high.
Games in both men’s and women’s division one grades will be played on both Friday evening and Sunday afternoons each week at the Pedrina Park hockey complex on the Brian Roberts Field and the Hamilton College hockey field.
