Cats find their rhythm

THE junior Cats had an incredible day on the courts on Saturday, with four wins and a single loss, where just one goal decided the game.

In the senior grades, the A Reserve side picked up its first win of the season – their hard work in training paying off for a 12-goal victory over the Demons.

The A Graders, despite their loss to South, are also on the verge of victory as they continue to find their feet in the competition and gel well as a brand-new team.

The Cats played their best netball of the year, knocking out 41 goals for the match.

Madalene Cleary, after almost a year off with injury, is in outstanding form and led by example on Saturday, claiming the front position and creating a clear target in goals, while providing great support and direction for her team.

Leading at the main break, the Cats tired a little in the third and a well-practised South took advantage, winning by just 14 goals at the final siren.

From the scribes …

13 & UNDER A

THE girls had their work cut out for them this week.

Shooters Phoebe and Adele managed to get the score line ahead of South, keeping the lead for majority of the game.

Defensively Ylana, Rachel and Ella used their height and ability to interrupt many passes.

The girls managed to come home with a great win!

C GRADE

THE Cats got off to a strong start against South Gambier, running some fantastic passages of play down the court, with the hard-working goaling combination of Brittany Parsons and Kimberly Hutchins netting 11 of the 15 goaling attempts.

The second quarter saw the hard-running and tight defender, Molly Dennis, come off at the change with a foot injury.

Chantelle Johnston stepped-up to fill the centre position where she gave it her all, feeding the goalers brilliantly with help from Isabella Baker who took the court at WA, providing great drive and voice.

The defence end worked tirelessly, Tania Mutch, Janine Parsons and Michelle Mutch constantly making South have to battle to get the ball down the court.

Unfortunately, some wild passes resulted in South being able to capitalise on their turn-overs and pulling away with their lead, 20 to 31.

Half-time saw some more changes to the Cats’ line up, with the fresh legs of Marissa Jamieson coming on at GD and Sophie Hart taking the court in the centre.

Janine, the matriarch of the team, went back into GK, where she and Marissa gelled straight away, keeping South to 11 goals for the quarter.

Michelle at WD caused numerous turnovers and feed to Isabella and Sophie down the court.

This provided numerous scoring opportunities for the Cats, finishing the quarter 26 to 42.

The last quarter the Cats girls hoped to rattle South, with Marissa moving into the centre, where she ran hard and teamed brilliantly with Chantelle at WA.

They combined well and ran out the last in style.

Kimberley and Britt are fast becoming a goaling combination that the opposition teams dread playing against, with their quick wits and skills.

Michelle, who played WD all game, never gave her WA an inch and her defensive and attacking pressure was outstanding all game.

Janine and Tania finished the last quarter in their usual style, tight-checking and causing numerous turnovers, they never stop working.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the girl’s day going down 35 to 55.

However, they are starting to piece together some fantastic passages of play and we are sure it will only keep improving as they get together as a team. They take on North Gambier next week - good luck girls.
