Positive effort despite result for Open side

IT was a tough outing for the Hamilton Kangaroos, going down to South Warrnambool by 49 goals in the Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) Open clash at Hawkesdale on Saturday.

The home side managed six goals to 16 in the first term, with the deficit growing to 25 at half time.

The second half was much the same, with the Roos falling to the Roosters at the final whistle, 22-71.

Despite the scoreline, Roos coach, Emma Sommerville, was positive about the round three performance.

“Overall I was actually pretty happy with the girls, we focused on smaller things on the court,” she said.

“There were a couple of lapses with our driving, but from what I asked and the execution of that, it was good.

“It was really good for the girls to go up against a really tough opponent and figure out where we need to get to and what we need to work on.

“I felt like the girls did that really well, they were controlled when we were attacking, and that constant driving when we had possession.”

Everyone will be available for Anzac Day, with a short turnaround to tomorrow’s annual clash against Portland.
