Haw takes A grade reins at Bloods

CAVENDISH Football Netball Club has unveiled its new A grade netball coach with Elise Haw stepping up into the role for the 2025 season.

Haw coached the A Reserve grade side this season and will replace Leanne Perry as the top-grade mentor.

“Her understanding of the game and dedication to player development make her the perfect fit for this role,” the club stated in its announcement of her appointment.

She is no stranger to coaching at this level, as she demonstrated her ability as Dartmoor A grade coach, where she guided the Giants to a top two finish before switching to the Bloods.

“Previously I coached A grade Dartmoor and made it to the Grand final with them as well, so I’m looking forward to what we can achieve in 2025,” she said.

“I coached A Reserve grade this season and ended up with the girls winning the flag, but I feel really connected to the club now, (having) built some really good relationships with those girls,” Haw said.

When quizzed about the future for the Cavendish squad, Haw said she was excited about what the group could achieve.

“I think the team is building again, with some great new faces around the club,” she said.

“(It) takes time to connect with your teammates, but it’s not just a game, it’s about creating a bond between the team that is really important to me.”

“Not me being their friend, but a respect for one another and what we expect from each other.

“I think there was plenty of talent in the squad from this season, I just look forward to coaching them and seeing what I can bring to the team with my type of coaching.”

The Bloods netballers start pre-season training on January 20 at Pedrina Park.

THE Bloods also reappointed Sam Gibson as its senior football coach for the 2025 season, after he guided the team to the minor premiership.

“It’s a great honour to be appointed again for what will be my third year coaching Cavendish, and to have the backing of not only the players, but also the club is a great benefit for what we are trying to achieve and helps with my personal confidence as the senior coach,” Gibson said.

“From season 2024 there were many positives, but of course always some good learnings and areas to improve.

“Probably for season 2025 our biggest area of improvement we want to work on is playing a more consistent brand of football.

“Throughout the season this year we had periods of playing some real quality football and our home and away results show that, however there were many patches where we felt like we weren’t up to standard and played quite poorly.”

Pre-season training for the footballers gets underway next month.
