THE Hamilton Racing Club will host the first leg of the Adam Lindsay Gordon jumps series tomorrow.
The series honours Adam Lindsay Gordon who was instrumental in the growth of jumps racing in Victoria.
Winners and placegetters will be awarded points at ALG events, with the winner after the series receiving a trophy on behalf of the Australian Jumps Racing Association.
With almost 100 nominations across two hurdle and two steeplechase events, racing should be very competitive.
With fields unavailable at the time of print, I have quickly pin-pointed potential horses to watch if they accept to race.
The Maiden Hurdle looks very open with recently placed runners, Maatsuyker, Irish Butterfly, Gambu, Carnamah along with the Trudy Cottier-trained Delightful Scoop all staying under notice.
Patrick Payne also has Whiskey Tango having his first hurdle start after strong recent flat form.
The Open Hurdle looks a great race if the nominations hold up.
Last year’s JJ Houlahan Hurdle winner, Fabalot, heads the weights, with other strong performers in Rising Renown, Frankenstar, Bazini, Lincoln King, Pure Deal and last start Casterton winner, Freddy The Eagle, making up what should be a terrific field.
The Maiden Steeplechase looks an even and very interesting race.
Wil John plied his trade as a hurdler last season, albeit unsuccessfully.
The 2021 Grand National Hurdle winner has schooled up over the fences in nice style and as a rising nine-year-old, his future could be over the bigger fences.
From the powerful Ciaron Maher stable, Wil John prepared for his steeplechase debut with a narrow but strong win in a recent Traralgon trial.
Port Guillaume looks a great chance based on his strong second in this year’s Galleywood Hurdle on the middle day of the Warrnambool May Carnival.
Kiwi runner, The Mighty Spar, was fourth in the same race, while Patrick Payne’s That’s Incranibull will strip fitter for his run at Casterton.
Despite being very doubtful to run, this year’s Grand Annual winner, Count Zero, heads the weights in the Open Steeplechase with 76kg.
The Symon Wilde team has also nominated Tolemac, while former Hamilton chase winner, Yulong Place, and the Andrew Bobbin-trained Duke Of Bedford look the best of the other runners.
To compliment the strong jump’s racing, the club will also conduct four flat races.
A Maiden and four BM64 races have attracted 134 nominations.
A host of big stables have nominated potential debutantes for the Maiden, therefore a watch on the betting market will be the key to finding the winner.
Two runners worth keeping an eye out for in the BM64 races are Rivkin from the Pat Ryan Jnr stable, while dual North Melbourne premiership coach, Denis Pagan, has the inform Turn It Up Tommy in the mile race.
