THE Surry District Tennis Association has seen another remarkably close A grade match, in round four on Saturday, with Lawn Purple defeating Tyrendarra by the absolute slimmest of margins, claiming a 3-34 to 3-33 win in their match at Tyrendarra.
It closely mimics the round one matchup between the two sides, when Lawn Purple came away with a two-game win.
Much like that last match, Jeremy Prevett and Marcus McClintock of Tyrendarra proved too good for Cam McCallum and Nash Wollard of Lawn Purple, winning both their sets, including an 8-1 margin in the first set.
On the flipside, the women’s matchup belonged comfortably to Lawn Purple, as Kerri-Ann O’Keefe and Leah Sandeman were able to gain the ascendancy over Robyn Kelly and Hannah Jones, winning their sets 8-2, 8-3.
O’Keefe then paired with McCallum to defeat McClintock and Kelly in their mixed doubles match, with the 8-4 score-line just enough to get them over the line.
This was in spite of Prevett and Jones defeating Wollard and Sandeman comfortably in their mixed doubles set, winning 8-3.
In the other A grade clash of the weekend, Lawn Blue comfortably defeated Heywood 6-49 to 0-23.
Austin Sadler and Kane Mueller of Heywood pushed Lawn Blue the furthest, forcing Aidan Mibus and Craig Keenan to win a ninth game in their second set to claim the win.
Verity McDonald and Brooke King were far too good in the women’s double sets, winning 8-4, 8-3 over Marnie Mueller and Jasmine Dawson.
Mibus and McDonald paired for one of the mixed doubles sets and took care of business 8-3 over Sadler and Marnie Mueller.
Keenan and King faired even better in their set against Dawson and Kane Mueller, winning 8-2 to finish off a dominant victory.
