GRAND final day in the Surry District Tennis Association is finally upon us, with minor premiers Lawn Purple set to take on local rivals Lawn Red for A grade premiership glory at Lawn Tennis Courts.
Purple and Red have been the two strongest teams all season long, with Purple finishing 13.5 points clear on top of the ladder with 72.5 points and a staggering percentage of 185.48% after the final round of the season.
Red has been their closest competitor, finishing second on the ladder with 59 points and a percentage of 131.35%.
Lawn Purple’s Cam McCallum said everyone is “pretty excited” to get the game underway tomorrow.
“It should be a good day, these two teams have had a couple of close (games) this season so we’re expecting it to be a good battle,” McCallum said.
“We really hope the weather’s alright, and we get some good tennis out of it.”
For her part, Lawn Red’s Nyla Conheady echoed the sentiments of McCallum, adding that this is the culmination of what has been a competitive season.
“I think the teams have been pretty competitive with one another so far… I actually didn’t get the chance to play against Purple until the first final because we had a rain out when I was available.”
McCallum said while his side will come in with the confidence of a strong season behind them, they’ll still need to put their best foot forward when it matters the most.
“Although we’ve been on top of the ladder all year, but the end of the season all the top four Lawn sides were pretty close,” McCallum said.
“In a grand final anything can certainly happen, we’ll need to be at the top of our game if we’re going to get the win.”
Conheady said they’re taking the same kind of motivation into the game, that while they’re coming up against the team to beat, they have the skills and the ability to get the best of them when it really counts.
“Anything can happen on the day, so that’s the mindset we have to take into the match, and we’ll see what happens from there.”
The A grade grand final gets underway at 1.30pm on the Lawn grass tennis courts.
